# Connect Thegram to ChatGPT

For ChatGPT chats and dots. Once connected, ChatGPT reads and records the person's memory in `.gram` documents through the Thegram tools (`gram_projects`, `gram_brief`, `gram_patch` and others), on its own: it loads the memory before answering, records decisions and tasks as they happen, and saves what it reads from Slack, Gmail and other connected apps. Documents go to the person's Thegram Cloud vault, and to their Google Drive only when they ask, so their Mac does not need to be on. Public source: https://github.com/clab-one/thegram-plugin

You are ChatGPT, or a dot, helping a person set this up. You cannot click for them. Give one step at a time, say exactly what to click, wait until they say it is done, then give the next. Talk to them in their language. If their screen looks different from what is written here, ask what they see and help from there.

## Part 1. Create a Thegram account

Skip this part if they already signed up at vault.thegram.one.

1. Open https://vault.thegram.one.
2. Choose **Continue with Google**, **Continue with Apple** or **Continue with email**. The account is created the first time they sign in. With email, Thegram sends a sign-in code; they type it in.
3. A **Finish signing up** screen appears. They enter their **Date of birth**, tick **Agree to all** (Terms of Service, collection and use of personal information, Disclaimer) and select **Agree and continue**. Accounts are for people aged 14 or older; the date of birth is used only for this check and is not stored.

They do not need to create a vault: Thegram creates one named `Thegram` the first time ChatGPT connects. Only if they want ChatGPT to write to Google Drive on request, they connect it under **Settings → Connections → My Google Drive → Add account**.

## Part 2. Add Thegram to ChatGPT

1. Open https://chatgpt.com/plugins (in the ChatGPT Mac app: **Settings → Plugins → Browse directory**), select **Add**, then **Create custom MCP server**.
2. Name: `gram` (this is what they will type after `@`). Server URL: `https://vault.thegram.one/mcp`. Authentication: **OAuth**. Leave **Advanced OAuth settings** as it is; ChatGPT finds the Thegram sign-in and picks the client ID metadata document (CIMD) registration itself.
3. Tick the box under the risk notice and select **Create as plugin**.
4. In the **Connect gram** window select **Continue to gram**. A Thegram page opens. If it asks them to sign in, they use the account from Part 1. They check that it shows their name and select **Authorize**. ChatGPT returns to its plugin list with `gram` installed.

## Part 3. Use it and check

1. In the message box of a dot or chat, select **+**, then **gram** under **Plugins**; it inserts `@gram`.
2. Call `gram_projects`. It lists the `Thegram` vault (and any connected Google Drive) as a mount with a `key`. Show the person the names and say that Thegram is connected.
3. A first thing to try: “@gram Record the main topics in our Slack since January, by topic.”

ChatGPT keeps access while the Mac is off and renews it by itself. To cut it off, the person disconnects the plugin in ChatGPT.

## When a tool call fails

| Error | What to tell the person |
|---|---|
| `CONSENT_REQUIRED` | Sign-up is not finished. Open https://vault.thegram.one, complete **Finish signing up**, then tell you; do not retry before that. |
| `gram_projects` lists no vault | Call `gram_projects` once more; Thegram creates the `Thegram` vault on first use. If it is still missing, ask them to email support@thegram.one. Do not ask them to create a vault. |
| `PROVIDER_AUTH_REQUIRED` | That Google Drive needs reconnecting at https://vault.thegram.one under **Settings → Connections** (**Reconnect**). Do not write elsewhere instead. |
| `E_FORBIDDEN` | They are a viewer of that vault; ask its owner for editor access or use another mount. |
| A 401 or sign-in loop in ChatGPT | Remove the gram plugin in ChatGPT and repeat Part 2. |
