Memory for
AI agents

Agents forget everything between sessions. Thegram gives Claude Code, Codex, OpenCode, OMP and ChatGPT one memory they share with you and with each other: what was decided, what is still open and what happened, kept per project in a .gram file with every revision.

01 · What agents keep

Outcomes,
not transcripts

An agent records what will still matter next week, one fact per record, and leaves out chatter, guesses, raw logs and secrets. You read the same records in Thegram as a document, a dashboard, a graph and a timeline.

02 · How it works

Read first,
write as it goes

Thegram gives agents a set of gram_* tools over the Model Context Protocol (MCP). The plugin's instructions tell the agent when to read and when to write, so you do not have to ask.

  1. One memory per project

Each git repository uses the Thegram folder with the same name, and its worktrees share it. Any directory can be mapped to another folder in ~/.config/thegram-memory/projects.json.

  2. A brief when the session starts

Before a coding agent answers for the first time, the plugin gives it the project's brief: its documents, the open risks and tasks, and the records that match your first prompt. Later prompts bring what other agents and people changed in the meantime. In ChatGPT, once you pick the plugin in a chat, it reads the memory before it answers.

  3. Look up, then read only what is needed

The agent searches the memory and reads the few records or sections it needs, instead of loading a whole notes file into its context.

  4. Every write is a revision

A write names the revision the agent read. If someone else changed the file in between, the write is refused instead of overwriting, and the agent reads again first. Several agents can work on the same project without losing each other's records.

  5. One reminder, not a nag

If a coding agent's turn edits files or makes a commit without recording anything, the plugin reminds it once to write down what changed.

  6. Ask about the past

The agent can read the project as it was on any date, or see when and why a decision changed before it reopens the question.

03 · On your Mac

Coding agents
on your Mac

The Thegram app runs the MCP server for agents on the same Mac. Turn on Agent Access in Settings, then install the plugin for your agent. Agents connect only on that Mac and only while the app is open.

  • Apple silicon · macOS 26
  • Node.js 22 or later
  • Claude Code · Codex · OpenCode · OMP
  1. Install the plugin

For Claude Code, run these two lines in Terminal, then start a new session. The install guide has the lines for Codex, OpenCode and OMP, and a button in the app that does it for you.

claude plugin marketplace add clab-one/thegram-mcp claude plugin install thegram-memory@thegram-memory
  2. Or hand it to your agent

Paste this into a new session. The agent checks your Mac, installs the plugin and tells you what it needs from you.

    Install Thegram by following https://thegram.one/install/agents.md
  3. Check that it remembers

Start a session inside a project folder and ask:

What does Thegram remember about this project?

04 · In the cloud

ChatGPT and
cloud agents

ChatGPT chats and dots, and any MCP client that signs in with OAuth, connect to Thegram Cloud. Memory lives in your Thegram Cloud vault, or in your Google Drive when you ask, so it works while your Mac is off. ChatGPT reads it before answering and saves what it learns, including what it reads in Slack, Gmail and other apps.

  • A Thegram account
  • ChatGPT or another MCP client
  1. The server

Streamable HTTP with OAuth sign-in. In ChatGPT, add it as a custom MCP server; the install guide shows every click.

  2. Claude Code off your Mac

Add the same server, then sign in from /mcp.

05 · The tools

What the
agent calls

The same gram_* tools on the Mac and in the cloud. Each answer is kept small, so an agent spends its context on your work rather than on its memory.

Questions

How is this different from CLAUDE.md or AGENTS.md?

Those files hold instructions you write for an agent. Thegram holds what happened: decisions with their status, open work, events with dates and sources, and every earlier version. The agents keep it up to date themselves, and the same memory works across Claude Code, Codex, OpenCode, OMP and ChatGPT.

Is it a vector database?

No. The .gram file is the memory itself, in plain text you can open. Search indexes are built from it and can be thrown away and rebuilt at any time.

Where is my memory stored?

Wherever its folder lives: on your Mac, in a Thegram Cloud vault, or in your Google Drive. With the Mac plugin, agents talk to the Thegram app on the same Mac. Cloud agents reach only your Thegram Cloud vaults and the Google Drive accounts you connect, never folders that exist only on your Mac.

Can I see and fix what an agent wrote?

Yes. Open the folder in Thegram on your Mac, iPhone, iPad or the web. History lists each revision with what changed and when, and on the Mac or the web you can edit or close any record yourself.

Can several agents write at the same time?

Yes. Each write is checked against the revision the agent read, so a write based on an old revision is refused rather than overwriting someone else's change.

What does it cost?

Thegram is free.
