Install
Thegram

Pick where you want Thegram. Every step says exactly what to click, and an AI agent can do most of it for you.

Hand it to your agent

Paste one line and the agent follows the guide written for it: it checks what is missing, does what it can, and tells you which buttons to press.

01 · Mac

Thegram
for Mac

The app keeps your .gram files on your Mac. Turn on agent access, and your coding agents share one memory with you and with each other.

  • Apple silicon (M1 or later)
  • macOS 26 or later
  • For agents: Node.js 22 or later
  1. Download the app

The download is a disk image named Thegram.dmg.

    Download for Mac

Not sure which Mac you have? Open the Apple menu › About This Mac. Chip should say Apple M1 or later, and macOS 26 or later.

  2. Move it to Applications

Open Thegram.dmg from your Downloads folder. A window opens with Thegram on the left and Applications on the right. Drag Thegram onto Applications.

Then eject the disk image: click ⏏ next to Thegram in the Finder sidebar.

    Thegram Thegram Applications
  3. Open Thegram

Open Thegram from Applications. The first time, macOS asks whether you want to open an app downloaded from the Internet: choose Open. Thegram is signed and notarized by Apple, so that is the only question.

Signing in is optional. Without an account, your files stay in a folder on this Mac. You can sign in later under Settings › Account to use vaults and Google Drive.

  4. Turn on agent access

Open Thegram › Settings… (⌘,), choose Agent Connections, and set Agent Access to Read and Write. Connection changes to Running.

Read lets agents look things up; Read and Write also lets them record decisions, tasks and history. Agents connect only on this Mac and only while the app is open.

  5. Connect your agent

Choose one way. You need the agent itself (Claude Code, Codex, OpenCode or OMP) and Node.js 22 or later.

On the same Agent Connections page, under Agent Apps, click Install next to your agent. Terminal opens and runs the agent's own install command. When it says the installation finished, go back to Thegram: the row shows Connected.

Codex: the next time Codex starts, it asks once whether to trust the plugin's hooks. Choose Trust all and continue.

Paste this into a new session of your agent. It checks this Mac, installs the plugin, and tells you what it needs from you.

    Install Thegram by following https://thegram.one/install/agents.md

Open Terminal, run the lines for your agent, then start a new session.

claude plugin marketplace add clab-one/thegram-mcp claude plugin install thegram-memory@thegram-memory
codex features enable hooks codex plugin marketplace add clab-one/thegram-mcp codex plugin add thegram-memory@thegram-memory
    opencode plugin add github:clab-one/thegram-mcp
omp plugin marketplace add clab-one/thegram-mcp omp plugin install thegram-memory@thegram-memory

The plugin is public: github.com/clab-one/thegram-mcp. If you once added a server named thegram by hand, remove it first so the plugin's server is the only one.

  6. Check that it works

Start a new session in your agent inside a project folder and ask:

What does Thegram remember about this project?

Each git repository gets a folder with the same name in Thegram. Open it in the app to see the decisions, tasks and history your agents recorded.

If something goes wrong

The agent says Thegram is not reachable

Open Thegram and check that Agent Access is not Off. If Settings says another Thegram is already accepting agent connections, quit the other copy and open the one in Applications.

Terminal says node: command not found

Install the LTS version of Node.js from nodejs.org, open a new Terminal window, and install the plugin again.

The agent's row shows Install Failed

The Terminal window shows why. Most often the agent itself is not installed yet, or its command is not found. Install the agent first, or use Ask your agent from inside it.

02 · iPhone & iPad

Thegram
for iPhone

Read your .gram files on iPhone and iPad. The app is in beta on Apple's TestFlight, and invitations go out by email.

  • iOS 26 or iPadOS 26
  • The email of your Apple ID
  1. Ask for an invitation

Send us the email address of the Apple ID you use on your iPhone or iPad. We add it to the beta, and TestFlight emails you an invitation.

    Request TestFlight access

The button opens your mail app with a short message: fill in your Apple ID email and send it. No mail app? Write to support@thegram.one with the subject “TestFlight access”.

  2. Install TestFlight

TestFlight is Apple's app for trying beta apps. Install it from the App Store on the device you will use.

    TestFlight on the App Store
  3. Accept the invitation

Open the invitation email on your iPhone or iPad and tap View in TestFlight. TestFlight shows Thegram: tap Accept, then Install.

If the email gives you a code instead, open TestFlight, tap Redeem, and enter the code.

  4. Open your files

Thegram opens .gram files from the Files app, including iCloud Drive. To read your vaults and Google Drive too, open Settings in Thegram and tap Sign In under Thegram account. Signing in creates an account if you don't have one.

Documents from your account arrive read-only; edit them on the Mac or at vault.thegram.one. If the app asks you to finish signing up on the web, follow Create your Thegram account below.

03 · ChatGPT

Thegram
in ChatGPT

Add Thegram as a plugin, and your chats and dots keep one memory: they read it before answering and save what they learn, including what they read in Slack, Gmail and other apps. It lives in Thegram Cloud, or in your Google Drive when you ask, so your Mac can stay off.

  • A ChatGPT account
  • A Thegram account (Part A)

Start with a Thegram account. ChatGPT signs in with it in Part B, so do Part A first. Already signed up at vault.thegram.one? Skip to Part B.

Rather be walked through it? Paste this into ChatGPT or your dot:

Walk me through connecting Thegram by following https://thegram.one/install/chatgpt.md

Part ACreate your Thegram account

  1. Sign in once to create it

Open vault.thegram.one and choose Continue with Google, Continue with Apple or Continue with email. Your account is created the first time you sign in. With email, Thegram sends you a code to type in.

    Open vault.thegram.one
  2. Finish signing up

Enter your Date of birth, tick Agree to all, and choose Agree and continue.

Accounts are for people aged 14 or older. Your date of birth is used only for this check and is not stored. The Terms, Privacy Policy and Disclaimer are the ones you agree to.

  3. Where your documents go

Nothing to do here. ChatGPT keeps your memory in a Thegram Cloud vault, and if you have none, Thegram creates one named Thegram the first time ChatGPT connects.

Want ChatGPT to write to your Google Drive when you ask for it? Open Settings › Connections and choose My Google Drive › Add account.

Part BAdd Thegram to ChatGPT

  1. Create a custom MCP server

Open ChatGPT's plugins page (in the ChatGPT Mac app: Settings › Plugins › Browse directory), select Add, then Create custom MCP server.

    Open ChatGPT plugins
  2. Fill in the form

Enter these values. Leave Advanced OAuth settings alone: ChatGPT finds the Thegram sign-in and picks the registration method (CIMD) by itself.

    Name
    gram
    Server URL
    https://vault.thegram.one/mcp
    Authentication
    OAuth
    Advanced OAuth settings
    Leave as is
  3. Create it as a plugin

Tick the box under the risk notice and select Create as plugin.

  4. Connect your Thegram account

In the Connect gram window select Continue to gram. A Thegram page opens. If it asks you to sign in, use the account from Part A. Check that it shows your name and select Authorize. ChatGPT returns to its plugin list with gram installed, and renews access on its own, even while your Mac is off.

Part CUse it

  1. Pick gram in a dot or a chat

In the message box select +, then gram under Plugins; it adds @gram. From then on ask normally. ChatGPT reads your memory before answering, records decisions and tasks as they happen, and saves what it reads from Slack, Gmail or other connected apps. Try:

@gram Record the main topics in our Slack since January, by topic.

If something goes wrong

ChatGPT says to finish signing up

Sign-up is not complete yet. Open vault.thegram.one, finish the Finish signing up screen, then ask ChatGPT again.

ChatGPT asks you to create a vault

It should not need to: Thegram makes a Thegram vault the first time ChatGPT connects. Ask ChatGPT to call gram_projects again; if no vault appears, email support.

Google Drive needs reconnecting

At vault.thegram.one, open Settings › Connections and choose Reconnect next to that Drive.

Sign-in keeps looping

Remove the gram plugin in ChatGPT and repeat Part B.

Stop ChatGPT from using Thegram

Remove the gram plugin in ChatGPT. It loses access right away.

Other agents off your Mac

The same server works in any MCP client that signs in with OAuth: https://vault.thegram.one/mcp. In Claude Code, run claude mcp add --transport http thegram https://vault.thegram.one/mcp, then sign in from /mcp. The plugin is public at github.com/clab-one/thegram-plugin.

Still stuck?

Email support@thegram.one with the step you are on and what you see. A screenshot helps.
